Primary prevention of Dementia in Populations: The search for modifiable risk factors

Abstract: Interest in primary prevention of dementia has grown as evidence emerges from population-based studies, known risk factors such a type 2 diabetes, hypertension, dietary fat intake, high cholesterol, and visceral obesity have been linked to increased risk of dementia. The effectivness of primary preventions is inhibited by de lack of sensitive or specific screening tools that can identify early development of cognitive impairment predictive of dementia.
